Troy 56 The End of Another Season
Lapwai 0
Kamiah 52
The speed of Kamiah.
There are two kids on this team that are at the top of the state when it comes to speed. They are highlighted with a yellow dot.
It is going to be pretty hard to beat a team that has this kind of speed. And every team that has played them, knows just what kind of speed they possess. Our kids have no reason to hang their heads. Kamiah dropped down from 2a to 1a this year and as this season has progressed, there has been a significant change in who is the power hitter.
By dropping down a conference, it has once again allowed Kamiah to be at the top of a conference as their record shows in the newspaper article. Not taking anything away from the Kamiah kids, the other teams in this league will have to step up their game in order to compete.
Lapwai has a great group of kids who give it their best every time they step on to the field of play. So, don't take anything away from these kids by talking them down. Everyone can't win them all and this teaches them to be stronger in their life.

Here is somewhat of a rundown of the game. Although, accuracy may be a problem, you will get the general idea.
*NOTE: Courage LoneBear was hurt during the start of the 1st. qtr.. At first it was thought that he had broke his collar bone, but just before he was put into the ambulance it was heard that it might be a shoulder dislocation. Still at this time, I do not know which, but wish him all the luck on his recovery.
Now for the game. Lapwai came out and scored on there first two possessions while only scoring on one of their extra point attempts, making the score 14 - 0. As the game progressed thru the first half, both teams kept swapping touchdowns making the score 36 - 24 by halftime. A total of 60 points.
When the second half began, Clearwater Valley had the ball. During this possession, Shelby Leighton intercepted the ball and ran in for a touchdown. This is when the second half opened up for our WildCats.
It was an explosive time for our kids. The committment that they showed on the field was pure enjoyment if you were a fan of Lapwai football. During the second half, there were two other interceptions. They were performed by Emani Mithell and were a beautiful sight to watch. His defense was right on the mark. In other words, right place at the right time. These interceptions led to more points on the scoreboard.
Now it is time to give credit to our lineman, linebackers, cornerbacks, and safety's. Without these men, you have neither offense nor defense. They are the core of what is called football. They are the silent players that don't get much recognition. They are the players that do the extraordinary work to allow points to be applied to the scoreboard and my hat is off to them.
Let's get to the offense now. Our running attack combined with a great passing scheme just clicked this night. Kyley Payne's hands must have had glue on them and Shelby Leighton's legs were made of steel, but they couldn''t have accomplished what they did without the help of Jacob Shults. This kid has an arm to say the least and it will be a joy to watch him on the field for the next two years.
I know I have probably missed some things or even a lot of things and somebody else's recollection will always be somewhat different. There were no stats taken this night or any other night as far as I know because there is no volunteer to do this job. I will try and give an estimate of Kyley, Shelby, and Jacob.
My best guess on combined yardage is 400 - 450.
Jacob threw for 200 - 250
Shelby ran for 80 - 100
Kyley's receiving 100 - 150
I believe there were 8 touchdowns
Kyley had 4 or 5 receiving touchdowns
Shelby, 2 or 3 touchdown
Tommy, had 1 touchdown (but not sure)
I do not know at this time just how points were allocated nor the accuracy of what is written, I am just trying to give our kids something to look back on, while giving them confidence!
Go WildCats!

This was a tough night for everyone, especially the players and staff. Keep on fighting Lapwai Wildcats!

Prairie 58
It was a very smoking night when nobody in their right mind should have been outside. Why this game was even played in these conditions just blows one's mind. Our kids did have their moments on both sides of the ball, but their was just a few too many mistakes and Prairie was able to stop us from scoring when it really mattered the most. Our team may be 1-2 but they do have the heart to win games.
This paper clipping is shown here to give hope to our team and give some understanding to those that show their ignorance during our games. Read the article and then say our kids don't have heart!
That being said........GO WILDCATS!

Lapwai vs Potlatch
A frustrating loss but the article doesn't tell the whole story. The Lapwai wildcats will bounce back. As with anything, there will always be learning experiences and this isn't going to be their last. We just have to play the cards that are dealt to us and make the best of it. Go WildCats!
Lapwai vs. Lewis-County
Our kids did very well for their first game and we can all be proud of what they have done. With our support, not only by coming to the home games but by making sure we support them on the road, we can have a great impact on what they may achieve. Go Cats!
